week 3 lit luminary

From chapters 6-7

when they are fleeing from the goblins in the cave Bilbo happens to get separated from the main group my reaction to this was that he was pretty much S.O.L , and my explanation to why I think this is because he runs into Golum who seems hell bent on eating his hobbit flesh.
Open ended question : When Bilbo finds the ring in the cave he puts it on and slips out of Golums grasp, but when he returns to the rest of the group he chooses not to reveal the fact the he has found a magical ring that saved him. why do you think he chose to keep it secret ?

  1. I think he chose not to tell about the ring because he overheard them saying he was useless, and he wanted to try to prove that he was valuable. Bilbo might have also felt that the ring would be taken from him or the dwarves would continue giving him a hard time, he also probably wanted to keep it a secret in case he needed it later.

  2. I think the reason he doesn't tell anybody because he didn't want anybody having that kind of power.

  3. I think that he didn't let them know that he had the ring because he didn't want the ring to fall into the wrong hands.
