How far ahead did you read? We're nowhere near the part with the Ring! Can you try sticking to where the rest of the group is, so we can answer the questions based on the reading?
Im guessing that if the ring were to get into the wrong hands that the forces of evil would somehow or someway, come into it its possession which in turn would tip the scales of good and evil greatly, causing them to become the most powerful force in middle earth.
